Five-Year Plan & IWSG

Wednesday, December 7, 2016

Today is another IWSG post day, when writers everywhere share their insecurities and offer encouragement to like-minded scribes. Today, Captain Alex is being ably assisted by Jennifer Hawes, Jen Chandler, Nick Wilford, Juneta Key, JH Moncrieff, Diane Burton, and MJ Fifield!

I'm not feeling particularly insecure today. Mainly, I miss writing due to being in a season of editing. I'm re-reading two books and I'm about to start editing another. Plus, with the impending holiday season, things will get more hectic.

Anyway, planning is important in everything we do and this month's question as to where I see myself in five years and how I plan to get there is a good one at this time of year.

I think I'll be selling a lot more print books locally and pacing myself better. I would certainly hope to have a wider reach by then and my plans include contracting a professional to help me do that. First though, I gotta sell some more books.

Where do you see yourself in five years? Are you laying the foundation to get there?

Hop over to the IWSG site where I've posted today about planning, plus you can win a great book about audiobook production. Click through this link to get there.

Have a wonderful day!

  3. Selling physical books locally is huge. I do this too bad though it does not show up in Amazon rankings. Best wishes for a smashing 2017!

  4. Hi Joy! Planning is huge and not one of my strongest writing attributes. Yikes! But getting some things on paper keeps me motivated. Good luck, stick with it, and see your goals become reality!

  6. Selling locally is something I know I should try to do. There's a couple of independent bookstores in town as well as numerous book/craft/community fairs throughout the year. One of these days...

  7. In five years I will know what five years from now looks like. I'm planning within my writing years right now and don't want to over weigh hopes with reality. I planned to have books published by now but now I see it was good to wait and see how I did in other areas first.

  8. I hope what I do today helps me tomorrow, but I'll have to wait and see. :-)

  9. Great goals! I hope I'm laying a foundation that's solid, but at moments, it feels sandy.

  11. Selling more locally is a good idea. You're already so productive that I wouldn't think you'd need to up your numbers, which is what a lot of other people's (mine included) goals consist of. Good luck!

  15. I love the look and feel of your website. Editing is a necessity, but not as much fun as creating the story. Your plan to sell locally is a good one. My latest mystery came out in print this fall, first print for me. Now I have to learn how to sell to the bookstores. Always something to learn when one is an author. Merry Chrstmas!!
