The Challenge for Today: I

Monday, April 11, 2016

After a rest day, we're back on the Challenge trail with I. Here are today's names.

Ian (m)          Pronunciation JAHN, Scottish form of John, origin – Scottish/English
Idris (m)        Ardent/enthusiastic lord, origin – Welsh (included 'cuz of Idris Elba, or course)
Ikram (f/m)  Honour, origin - Arabic

Ianthe (f)     Violet flower, origin – Greek mythology
Ibtisam (f)   Smile, origin – Arabic
Iekika (f)      Hawaiian equivalent of Jessica

What interesting I names d'you have?

  1. Isabella, not uncommon or anything just like the sound of it. Isolde. Isa - the name of Jesus in Arabic (but also spelt Eissa sometimes), Iman Arabic, faith. Ishank - Sanskrit, name of Shiva, the Destroyer in the Hindu trinity.

  2. Names that begin with I aren't very common. I think I've only met one person with an I name - Iris.

  3. I like that name Iekika; very pretty!

Isabella comes to mind for an I name :)

  4. Ikram is a strong name. I had a couple I names in my series because all Tgren names began with a vowel.

  5. How about Isis, Iris and Ingrid. Those come from all over the map.

  6. Now I'm trying to remember how many people I've known with names that begin with "I". Not many I guess, but I can think of a few right off the bat.

Excellent "i" names! I like Isadore myself.
