IWSG Encouragement

Wednesday, August 5, 2015

Today is post day for the Insecure Writer’s Support Group! Once again, we'll put our fears out there, as well as encourage those who need it. If you haven't signed up, click this link to do so. The awesome Captain Alex and the group wait to welcome you. Drop in on some bloggers you haven't visited in a while. I definitely intend to do the same.

Alex's co-hosts this time around are Nancy Gideon, Bob R Milne, Doreen McGettigan, Chrys Fey, Bish Denham, and Pat Garcia!

I'm not sure today's topic is an insecurity. Maybe it is best described as a realization. Writing demands as much attention as anything in my life and when I step away from the business side of it, things start to slip. Like the diminishing sales that resulted when I stopped promoting my latest book consistently.

It's inevitable that life and certain events will draw me away from what I like doing best, but it's up to me to try and strike a workable balance. So, with that in mind, I leave you with this thought and hope your insecurities don't get you down.

  1. I know what you mean. It's like two or three full-time jobs: writing, marketing, and all the in-between.

  2. Excellent quote. It is a big balancing act.

  3. It's very hard to keep up with all of it, no doubt. This quote was a great thing for me to read today.

  4. I know exactly what you're saying here. I deal with this, too. Finding the balance is so hard. Keeping it is even harder. Love the quote.

  5. That is a very great quote to live by. Balance for me this month is between the new WIP and promotion.

  6. But some days it sure feels impossible. ;)

  8. I'm not sure what the business side of things would be for me that would increase sales. It all seems rather random. You should do a post about what specific things you've found influence your sales-- I'd like to know!

  9. That's the problem, it's work trying to balance life and career and family. I wish there were a pill. Patting one of my cats helps. Happy IWSG, Joy.

  10. Oh this hit a nerve. I hate the promotion side of writing. I have to focus on the end result...you're right. Thanks for the encouragement. :)

  11. I know what you mean. Although, unlike you, I don't really see the correlation between promotion and book sales. But it is incredibly hard to keep everything balanced while trying to move forward at the same time.

  12. Oh yes. The promo is non-stop and exhausting.

  13. Seems you've got the balance thinggie worked out, Joy.
If you're not writing, then you're marketing and promoting.

Don't be shy, I'd love to hear what you think.
