Belief

Thursday, April 2, 2015

So we've established that you have the makings of a writer inside you and there's evidence—years of scribbled stories stashed away somewhere gathering dust.

Whether you recognize it or not, those story snippets have laid the groundwork for the journey you're about to embark on. They might not be in any shape to win a competition, but they provide the proof you need that your 'writerly' aspirations are not a hazy dream, but form the basis of what will grow into something of substance.

For now, the next step to take on this journey might be uncertain, but you must have a firm belief that you can and will do this. The Pocket Oxford Dictionary defines belief as a feeling that something exists or is true, especially one without proof; a firmly held opinion; trust or confidence.

With a firm resolve, an appetite for knowledge and a lot of stick-to-it-iveness, the writing career you're dreaming of is possible to achieve.

“It doesn't matter if thousands of people believe in you, unless You believe in You.”

  1. Belief (Believe) is a beautiful, profound word. The etymology of it is particularly fascinating.

  2. I so agree. I think anyone who is creative needs to have a healthy belief in him/herself. The trick is not to get too full of ourselves. :-)

  5. Nothing Ventured Nothing Gained. People are often too afraid of failure to try things. I have no desire to be a writer and there are no snippets anywhere, but regardless of the topic or the venture, I love seeing people trying, venturing, learning. And even if they don't make it all the way, the effort is in itself rewarding.

  15. Belief is a big thing. It can be hard to attain no matter how much you've achieved. Sometimes it's blind faith and just keep marching on.

  16. I agree. One word can stand for a million if it is the right word. Belief is one of those.

  21. I LOVE that quote, and agree with it wholeheartedly. Too many times we fear the unknown. You are right though...belief comes from inside the soul!

  22. I agree, that quote sums it up. No what anyone else thinks of me, or even knows I can do doesn't matter- it only matters what I know I can do. (And by know, of course, I mean believe).

  23. That's the tough part. Some days we believe and others we don't.
