Defying Reason

Monday, March 9, 2015

Today, I'm answering a question I am asked again and again. Why do I write romance?

Well, for one, I love to read romances. I like happy endings. I like worlds where things make sense and characters find their soul mate. There is plenty of pain and loss in life, I don't need to escape reality with bitter virtual reality. I prefer the positive thoughts, where problems are solved and love conquers all.

I also like romance because I am a believer. There is a perfect someone for everyone. Ask my mother. She was widowed and 75 and found a new husband over the internet and remarried at 77. She's living her happily ever after bowling with her new hubby in Alaska.

They say write what you know, and I know love can and does conquer all.

The Blurb:

Jo Leigh Harper comes from a long line of trouble-making, white trash stock.
Tanner Coulter comes from a longer line of wealth-creating, blue blood stock.
Jo graduated college top of her class, moving toward a future full of possibilities.
Tanner dropped out of college, trading a law degree for drinking games and one night stands.

A family crisis throws the rich party boy and the poor genius girl together. The attraction is immediate, though neither one is a heart-in-the-sand-drawing believer in true love. But as the summer sun heats up along the shores of the Outer Banks, so does the connection between them. Maybe, just maybe, they can win at love by defying reason.

  5. Best wishes to Elizabeth. And I do like happy endings. That's just me. Good guy defeats bad guy and gets the girl.

  6. I can't NOT write romance. All of my stories, even if they are supernatural or suspense, have love as a sub-genre. I love romance and adore happy endings. :)

  9. I think everyone loves romance even when they don't want to admit it. That's way almost every genre has a romance element in it.

  12. I've long suspected I like writing love stories and giving my characters happy endings because I'll probably never marry. Having a high school sweetheart or getting dates is just foreign to me, and my relationship with my walking DSM ex-"fiancé" is probably the only real romantic relationship I'll ever have. Thus, I live vicariously through my characters, who have no problem finding love and relationships.

    1. My junior high school English teacher said that. Then she got married. You never know.

I enjoy vicarious living. I can control those stories!
