Grudge & A Writer's Motivation

Today marks the release of my 15th publication. I'm writing this with mixed feelings. Happy that another story has left the realm of my imagination and is out in the world, and of course crazy-nervous over the fact that I continue to subject myself to the roller-coaster that we call publishing.

This latest novel is Grudge, a romantic suspense effort. Due to my sucky marketing, my suspense series doesn't do well, but like all the other times, I'm trying a different approach. I remarked to someone this past week that I plan to go in another direction in the new year with a series of New Adult novels that I've been thinking about.

I'll be focused on that, but it is amazing how the creative process works. When I decide I'm giving the suspense stories a break, a character who's been on the fringes of my mind for years has come through, major plotline and all. I'll write it, of course, but it won't be at the forefront of my publishing efforts in 2015.

There are times on this journey when I have a stroke of inspiration that's needed to remind me of why I write. (I guess you would have seen the badge by this) Even if my readership is not at the level I desire, the crux of the matter is that I write because I like crafting stories, meeting new characters and exploring their world.

My first effort at marketing Grudge is a Thunderclap campaign, which is an attempt on December 30 to have 100 persons sending out the message about the book. Do me a huge favour and sign up. Once you click though to the Thunderclap page and indicate how you are prepared to support the book (Facebook/Tumblr/Twitter) you don't need to do anything else. An automated message will be sent out on your feed on December 30. Think you can spare the time to help another author out?

I doubt very much that I'll be posting again before next Monday and that post will be about the things I've learned about publishing in 2014. With that said, have a blessed and holy Christmas Season, focused on the Christ child, and filled with the love of family and friends.

  1. I've just signed up only now realising I could support you on FB, for some reason I thought it only applied to Twitter which I am not on. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

  6. I've seen Thunderclap around. I'm thinking about joining, although I feel like I have accounts everywhere.

I also wonder about my marketing efforts and my readership. Still, I keep writing and believe that with several published books, there's always time to market, remarket, and find new readers.

    Happy New Year.

    1. If you don't think you'll find 100 persons (which is the lowest Thunderclap allows) use Headtalker I wish I had discovered it before.

I agree that we just have to keep moving forward.
