Soulless & Special Characters

Wednesday, November 5, 2014

Today is IWSG post day. On the first Wednesday of each month, group members share their insecurities and offer support to each other under the auspices of Captain Alex. Sign up here to share your challenges. This month's co-hosts are LG Keltner, Donna Hole, Lisa Buie-Collard and SL Hennessy!

With a new release and a blogfest and a blog tour just completed, I'm more than a little frazzled, but that will pass.

The only insecurity I have right now is the same one I get after each book release. The numbers are not where I want them to be, but you know what? I'm grateful that I have the freedom to do exactly what I'm doing now. Lots of hard work ahead, but when has that ever been different

Absolution in Brief:

Dumped by her husband of seventeen years, Annette McKellop hatches a plan for revenge and retribution, but are her actions worth the loss of her daughter's respect and a second chance at love?

What are your insecurities?

So happy to have Crystal here today, celebrating Soulless and talking about characters. Without further ado ...

Casting is especially difficult for me because I'm a SUPER visual person, so when I create characters, I have a VERY specific image in mind. It's almost impossible to find a match. Because of that, there are no easy-fit actors or actresses for my characters, but I've done the best I can. (Contains spoilers for those who haven't read MOONLESS. Get your copy October 13, 20, 27, 31 or November 7 for FREE.)

Kiren

(Gabriel Aubry--missing a jagged white scar down his cheek.)

Kiren is constantly working for redemption from the mistakes of his past. He carries the weight of the world and keeps everyone at a distance with the hope of protecting them. While striving to hold the Passionate together, he fights his own heart. Will he cling to the love of his existence, Alexia, or let her go to fulfill a greater destiny? (Don't get caught staring into his eyes or you may just find him reading your thoughts.)

Charles

(Jeffery Dean Morgan.)

Alexia's dad, Charles Dumont, is a country baron who has a tendency toward anger, but absolutely adores his daughter. After losing both parents, his sister, Alexia mother, and his wife, he clings to his only remaining family and is terrified to let her go. A soldier at heart, he is not afraid to fight, even the Soulless.

John

(Joe Manganiello)

John was a doctor in a small community before he was tainted by the Soulless. Since then he's been searching for a way to heal the Soulless, including himself. He and Kiren share many ideals, but stand on opposite sides of the Passionate/Soulless line. A man of integrity, he doesn't mix words, nor does he paint a prettier picture than reality.

Edward

(A younger Paul Newman)

Edward can bend your memory faster than you can shake hands. He won't, unless ordered by Kiren because of his own mistaken past, but his gift for altering people's minds is a skill few of the Passionate possess. He's loyal to Kiren.

About SOULLESS:

The Soulless are coming.

Alexia manipulated time to save the man of her dreams, and lost her best friend to red-eyed wraiths. Still grieving, she struggles to reconcile her loss with what was gained: her impending marriage. But when her wedding is destroyed by the Soulless—who then steal the only protection her people have—she’s forced to unleash her true power.

And risk losing everything.

Book 2 in the Maiden of Time trilogy.

Bish Denham is celebrating a recent release and I'm happy to have both her and Marvin for a stopover visit.

From the moment he hatches, Marvin P. Tinkleberry knows he is destined for greatness. For one, he has a marvelous, well-groomed tail. For another he can puff out his throat pouch in the most spectacular way. Maybe the other lizards in his colony don't take him seriously, but he knows the truth. It lives in the marrow of his bones; he's going to be a hero.

When a feral cat threatens the lives of all who live at Stone Wall in the Garden by the Sea, Marvin knows it's HIS destiny to get rid of the fearsome beast. Travelling Over the Hill to find help should be as easy as snapping up a sleeping moth. But it doesn't take long for Marvin to see that the world beyond Stone Wall is not the same as his pampered life back at the garden. From the deadly Sucker Cactus Forest to deadly mongooses, danger lurks around every corner and Marvin will have to decide if he's willing to be the hero he's long bragged about being.

About the Author

Bish Denham was raised in the U. S. Virgin Islands. Her mother's side of the family has lived in the Caribbean for over one hundred years and she still has plenty of family there whom she visits regularly.

She says, "Growing up in the islands was like living inside a history book. Columbus named the islands, Sir Francis Drake sailed through the area, and Alexander Hamilton was raised on St. Croix. Then there were the pirates who plied the waters. Life for me was magical, and through my writing I hope to pass on some of that magic."

Bish has known many lizards in her life. Marvin and Leeza are based on two that lived in her bedroom.

She is the author of Anansi and Company: Retold Jamaican Folk Tales which you can find on Amazon.com.

And I know what you mean about sales. We do what we can to get the word out, but in the end, we can't make people buy the book. They either will or won't.
