What would you say to Grandma about this conversation?

  1. Wow, that was really rude of Grandma!

  2. Grandma should try to keep her emotions in check... don't place the kiddies in the centre of adult conflicts!

  3. Something tells me this isn't the first time Grandma has said this sort of thing directly to her. I don't know if it is this woman's mother or MIL... but how I handled it would depend on that. If it were my mother saying these horrible things about/to me and my child, we would have a talk. Of course, if that is the relationship, she quite possibly has bullied this woman her whole life... and she might be afraid of the confrontation. People take it until they can't... so, how bad will Grandma have to get to force a confrontation??? If it is the MIL, the first step would be talking to hubby about talking to his mother. Once again, that might not suffice... and Grandma will push it until DIL has to confront her directly. Bullies only back down when they know their victim isn't scared any longer.

  4. Yup, rude, rude, rude.

Michelle, true. Unfortunately, some adults thrive on throwing the kids in the middle of their fights.

Robin, this situation is the MIL. Going through hubby is a good start, if he has a handle on his mother. Otherwise, mom will have to deal with issue herself.

  5. It sounds like Grandma said it on purpose so the boy would repeat it.

  6. The grandma should never have said that to a young boy. If it were me and this was a first time occurrence, I would just tell the MIL that what she said was inappropriate and to be careful. I would wait to see if the MIL listens before going any further.

  8. That's right, Diane.

    Chrys, good thinking.

Joylene, Grandma does need to have her head examined.

  9. Let her know I know what she said. Nod, nod, walk off. Give boy candy.
