Working...Editing...Deadlines

Wednesday, November 13, 2013

I’ve been crazy-busy since November stepped in, so it’s a good thing I didn’t choose to do NaNo this year. For some reason, November always turns into a crazy month for me. If you’re doing NaNo, I hope your writing and word count are going swimmingly. So what have I been doing?

  • Working (the day and sometimes weekend job)
  • Editing a little
  • Stressing a teensy bit over a couple of deadlines that are coming up fast
  • Trying to finalize a couple of covers

With that said, I know I bugged everybody a couple of weeks to help me with a cover, BUT the in-house graphic artist at work liked the heavy font on the first cover and the set up on cover number three. He suggested using red for the title and considering all the danger involved in Contraband and such matters, I got busy. Plus, I found a super-cool font that I like, which also fits the story.

So, help a sista out…which cover d’you like better?

  1. The second one. The red and the slant of the font screams danger. I think that graphic artist has a great eye. Never forget during the crazy that at least you have something to do and are working. We must always find a way to be thankful.

    1. Thanks so much, Sheena. Didn't remember that he said to try that until today.

So true that so many are out of work and at least I'm getting paid extra for all the weekends I'm working.

    1. Michelle,
So sorry it's not showing up for you. :(

    2. Okay I can see it now. The second one has an in-your-face appeal, and the slanted writing combined with the interesting font is effective too!
And the mysterious mister is just as interesting... ooh-la-la!

  3. I don't usually like red - I think it is a rather garish colour but in this case I will change my mind. The second cover is much better probably because the writing is at an angle and the red colour makes the lettering pop so much better.

    1. Sally, thanks so much for weighing in. I thought the red would draw my eyeballs too, but I think it contrasts nicely with the white font. Appreciate your help.

  4. I do love the red! It suits the font smashingly. Love it, Joy!

  5. Definitely the second. The red is appealing and speaks a thousand words. How does it show when the size is reduced?

    1. Hey, Peaches. Thanks. The red is what shows up when it's reduced.

  6. Definitely number two. More eye-catching.
November was too busy for me to do NaNo. Besides, I needed this vacation!

  7. That is a beautiful man and he is definitely eye-catching. LOL. Probably number 2 -- although the font is a bit hard to read.

  8. That's a tough one since I'm totally distracted by his gorgeous face in both ;) lol. But I agree that the red title adds a sense of danger or something to it. I'd go with #2!

  9. I like the red - but should his ear be red too?

    1. LOL. I think it's the angle at which the light is hitting his ear that makes it red.

  11. I like the second one too. Not only because the red suggests danger, but the angle does too. It works nicely as the models head is tilted slightly.

  12. Ooh, I love number two! Good luck with all the busy-ness!

  13. Thanks so much for stopping in and sharing, guys. Holly, didn't take the tilting of the guy's head into account, but it does work. :) Shallee, I hope I can be a little more unbusy soon.

  14. Ooo! Sexy model. I like both of them and can't decide, which is of no help to you. But I agree that #2 has slightly higher drama to it.

  15. Oh what a fine looking man.........................................................................
    Ok, I'm back. (;
I like the second one better. It's strange, but for some reason I feel I see the man's face better in the second one. Not sure how because I know nothing changed with the image, just the title, but....I don't know, I think he just hypnotizes me, lol!

  16. You're always busy, Joy :-) I am so impressed by how much you accomplish. I agree with the other comments, very attractive man on that cover, there. Where'd you find him? I like both covers, but it looks like I'm the only one who likes #1 better. But you do such fine work, either will be great!

  17. No you're not Susan, with each comment above I kept going back and though I'm missing something for not loving 2 so much.
I think that's course I like the yummy man too much also. Number one would make me pick the cover off the shelf and then find out what the books about. I also think you don't need the red so much because it makes the message too obvious besides the fact that it taes away from that uber hot face. I wish I had this face in mind when I read contraband. I may have been kinder to him. It would definitely have upped the heat factor in that bedroom seen for me. hehehe

  18. Thanks, Mary!

Elise, I'm laughing along with you. He is fascinating to look at.

Thanks, Susan. It's a stock photo, but I had to have it resized for this purpose.

Wendy, you're a riot. Guess what? Not that I wanna be graphic or anything, but having got the rights back, I'm able to do that scene the way it read originally.

  19. The second one is bolder, but it takes away from the look in the model's eyes. which is very powerful. I'd use the first one Joy. An excellent design all around.
