No Rest for the Wicked...

Monday, November 4, 2013

I’ve got the rights back on a couple of books as at the end of October and since there’s no rest for the wicked, I’m hard at work getting them updated, which includes new covers. Of course, I’m gonna ask for your help. Please let me know which you prefer for both Contraband and Chasing Anya. I added the voting thingie for both. As always, I’m grateful for your help and comments/suggestions are welcome. I’ve added blurbs so you’ll have an idea what each book is about.

 CONTRABAND

As master of his destiny, Paul Weekes does what is necessary to survive. He prides himself on being a self-made man, but his luck nosedives when hijackers target his illicit shipments. He has no proof, but suspects the police officer who facilitates his exports off the island of Xantrope has turned on him. To make things worse, Paul's ne'er-do-well cousin is accidentally involved in a gang murder, and a hit is put on him. A budding liaison with the cop's niece adds more complication. Janine refuses to accept Paul's way of life, but inadvertently becomes a victim of his lifestyle. Thrust into kidnapping, double cross and murder, Paul must choose between a relationship with Janine and staying alive long enough to change the course of his future.

 CHASING ANYA
Been there. Done that.

Feisty and independent, Anya Davies lives by her own rules. The one thing she’s hell-bent on avoiding is a conventional relationship, thanks to her abusive ex who refuses to stay in the past. The second complication in her life is a secret that condemns her to constant guilt and a solitary life. A series of near misses and escalating threats are a third and worrying factor. Only a special man would understand or live with Anya’s challenges and demands.

Casual sex...so not having that.

Enter Christophe Mondesir. Two years ago, Anya dumped him without explanation. An accidental meeting shoots Anya back on Christophe’s radar. He refuses to be denied and plans to breach the fortress Anya has built around her heart—if she’ll commit to more than a casual liaison. He’s also determined to find out what she’s hiding. That’s if the stalker who’s after Anya doesn’t end her life first.

  1. Wow. I noticed that your polls are tied. The covers are so close and so good that any will do.

With the first cover, I like the setup of the second cover but the text from the first best.

  3. Thanks, Clarissa. They're pretty similar, 'cause of the big old head shot. :)

Alex, thanks. I'll have a look-see to gauge how it looks with setup 2 and font 1.

  4. There's a clear favorite in each category now.

  5. Voted. I like #3 for the first book. There's a solid simplicity about it, a clarity that I like. And #1 for the second book has an obvious lead. It's feminine.

  6. I like Chasing Anya number 1 and Contraband number 2. The vertical titles just grab me.

  7. " a self-man man" a typo from Contraband blurb. Congrats on getting your rights back!

  8. I like the last Contraband cover the best--very clean and interesting. Plus, it lets the model do his work. :) I prefer the first Chasing Anya cover. The text gives it a very elegant feel.

  9. E.J., Thanks. I mostly like clean over fussy. That first Anya cover seems to be runaway favourite. Thanks for weighing in.

  10. I voted, but didn't leave comments over there for either. I do want to say that on the Anya book, I think the first one is very typically romance while the second version veers more into a women's fiction cover, imho. I voted for the second one, because the story sounds like it could be women's fiction.

  11. I voted for #3 and #1. Those were the ones that left my eyes the happiest. Thanks for the plug, Joy!

  12. Fabulous! On the Chasing Anya cover, I chose #2 only because I liked the "An Island Adventure Romance" directly under the title. Otherwise, I liked the font of the title on #1 better. Do you think you could move that line on #1 closer to the title? It makes more sense next to it instead of grouped in with your name, etc.
    Great work!

    1. I hear you Emily and you're right. Will try and figure out how to get the IAR with the title. Kinda challenging cause of the font and how I have the title laid out in 1.

  13. Thanks Carol. I think you're right on the Anya cover. I like the second too, but as you noted the first is typically romance and the story is more romance than anything else.

Thanks Joylene, that helps. No worries on the mention.

  18. Can I use that book blurb JL and have you decided on the cover yet? Are you sticking with the pen name or making it JL writing as?

    1. Thanks! Wendy, yes, the blurb is good. For this book, it will be JL writing as...
