Overcoming Adversity Anthology & Jamaican Kid Lit

Sunday, March 3, 2013

It’s here! Remember the Overcoming Adversity Bloghop? Nick Wilford has put together an anthology from that bloghop. The funds raised will contribute to his stepson’s education. Do support this worthwhile venture.Don't you just love the cover?

Blurb:
A collection of seventy moving and uplifting original pieces - real life, flash fiction, and poetry - about battling against the odds and the ultimate triumph of the human spirit. The contributors include Amazon bestselling authors Alex J. Cavanaugh and Kyra Lennon, and the cream of upcoming talent.

The anthology is part of a fundraising effort to send the editor's stepson, Andrew McNaughton, to a specialist college in England. Andrew has cerebral palsy, and is a remarkable young man with a promising future. However, the free further education options offered in his own country of Scotland will not challenge him and allow him to progress. In order to access the education he deserves, Andrew will have to pay exorbitant fees, thus creating a situation of discrimination.

Help us get Andrew to college by buying a book that runs the full gamut of human emotions, ultimately leaving you inspired and glad to be alive. Whatever struggles you are going through, our sincere hope is that this book will help.

Editor Bio: Nick Wilford is a writer and stay-at-home dad. Once a journalist, he now makes use of those rare times when the house is quiet to explore the realms of fiction. When not writing he can usually be found spending time with his family or cleaning something. He has four short stories published in Writer’s Muse magazine. Nick is also co-running a campaign to get a dedicated specialist college built in Scotland. Visit him at http://nickwilford.blogspot.co.uk/.

As some of you know, I'm getting ready to launch a middle-grade series. As usual, I’ll need your help with spreading the word.

The launch will be easy and different. Bloggers will post a blurb and a fun challenge for readers. More details will follow shortly. Meanwhile, feel free to add your link below.

I’ll be eternally grateful.

Here’s the blurb in a nutshell.

A domestic dispute.
A family shattered.
A shocking discovery.
A girl on a quest.
A life changed forever.

  1. I'm taking part in the April A-Z Blogging challenge. Are you doing anything before or after April that I can take part in? Congrats on your MG book. Glad Nick got his book out and wish him luck raising the funds.

    1. Sheena, I wanted to give myself more time, but considering your question, (which I'm sure will be asked again), I might as well do the switch now.

    1. Thanks, Alex. I had the launch date set for the second week in April, but revised that considering that people will be super-busy in the A-Z.

Posting the material I'll provide for March 27 is the easy part. Taking part in the 'challenge' I'm coming up with is also optional, but will take a few minutes to do. More on that later.

  5. I admire Nick for taking on this project for his son. He's a beautiful person. I'm not signing up for your kidlit launch because it's the last week of my Monday Mania and it wouldn't be fair to the author I have that week. But if you'll send me stuff, I'll be happy to tweet and fb.

As for your MG series, I'll be in Hawaii that week. If it extends into April, send me the info!
