Writing Healthy & NaNo

Friday, November 2, 2012

Today, I’m doing my Healthy Writers Club post. Again, the week seems to have disappeared in a whirlwind of work and more work. I have so many return visits to make as I’ve been neglecting some friends. I also have reviews to post for books I've read, but can't seem to get to them. Sigh.

This week, I only got two sessions of exercise in, both less than half an hour. Of course, I have good intentions for the coming week.

On the writing front, I did get some stuff edited. I’m not quite ‘feeling’ a couple of my stories, but I’ll continue working until I have a breakthrough.

I’ve noticed a major decline in the stuff tweeted through my Triberr groups (whispers Thank God!) which I think is due to NaNo. For those of you taking on NaNo, have fun, but don’t run yourselves to a wreck. The times I've done it, November whizzed by and at the end I felt like I'd been hunkered down in a cave and the world had passed me by - but boy have I got some great books out of NaNo!

Enjoy the weekend!

  1. I admire your "never give up" attitude with working out. Go J.L.!

Oh, and I can totally relate about not feeling the love on the edit. I'm having such a hard time falling in love with my story like I did when I initially wrote it. Maybe it's because right now my job is nit-picking, not just reading through and seeing the story. I don't know. So it feels laborious, which, in a sense, I guess it really is!

    1. Oh and a PS. So I just have to tell you that every time I come on to your blog to read and comment, I get hung up on your banner and that book cover, Contraband. Eye candy. 'Nuff said.

    4. Julie and Gwen, lol on the covers. That guy on Contraband does catch the eye. As to the editing, 'laborious' is a good word. Couldn't have come up with a batter one myself. :D

  2. Hey Joy, twice a week is not bad. It's better than not at all. The important thing is you keep trying.

I'm not doing NaNoWriMo, but I just joined NaNoRevMo - it's for those who are editing instead of writing.

    1. NaNoRevMo sounds right up my street. Gonna check it out. I'm not making as much progress as I'd like, but I'm trying to cut myself some slack with work and all.

  3. J L,

I didn't post for the healthy writers club this week, but getting the house and yard ready for Sandy was physical labor I'm counting as exercise! I'm hoping that next week I'll post some real success, I'm determined to not only do NANO, but really commit to five days of good cardio and yoga. I figure if I can commit to 50,000 words I should be able to commit to the healthy part of life too! Otherwise it will be 50,000 words and 5 lbs from to much 'ass in the chair'! :)

    1. Yolanda, your comment gave me a laugh. Sounds like you did a fair bit of physical labour. Hope you get some of that in, so you won't have five pounds to fight with in December.

  4. Twice a week is better than none :).

I swim every chance I get, and that's the only health regime I have.

  7. I didn't get in my regular amount of exercise this week either, but I do hope to do better next week. NaNo sounds intense, I'm not doing it this year but I'm thinking maybe I could try it next year if I'm still around, lol! (:

All the best with your exercise regime! Sounds great. I've been down -just recovering now with the help of antibiotics.

  10. I admire all NaNo'ers... 50K in one month? Just the thought of it is enough to get me hyperventilating!
Great to see you hanging in there with your exercises...

    1. It can be a little nerve-wracking, but when you have a plan, it can be a lot of fun.

  11. I'm not doing NaNo this year, but I've cut way back on blogging and social media related things. A lot of other concerns have been rearing up and I'm just plain tired of late. I need a real vacation I think.

    1. There are times when we MUST cut back in some areas to stay afloat. The fun (and unnecessary) things usually fall victim first. Hope things get back to normal for you soon.
