The Exercise Wagon & Satisfactory Conclusions

Friday, October 19, 2012

I fell off the exercise wagon this week in a big way, so don’t have much to report in my Healthy Writers Club update. Shallee McArthur started this club to keep us writers focused on preventing our back end from spreading any further, thanks to extended time at the keyboard.

Got home late most evenings this past week and only got in two fifteen-minute sessions. As always, I aim to do a lot better next week.

It’s been an interesting week. Work sapped my energy every day.  Most evenings, I was too tired to do anything once I got home. Seems when things start to get sluggish for me on a personal level, everything else follows.

It’s the same with writing. When I let things slack off, it’s hard to ‘feel’ my stories and get going again. Currently, I’m straddling two-short stories, neither of which seem to want to work with me toward a happy satisfactory conclusion. I know I’ll have them licked soon though.

I’m hoping next week will see a lot more blood-pumping action. Put it this way, I have to make things happen if I want to stay on schedule with all the things I have planned.
Enjoy your weekend and meet me back here on Monday. I’ll be spreading some encouragement.

  1. Boy, some days, weeks, months.... are like that! Here's to busting through the wall on writing and toning tushies. I love that your honest. I feel like I can pull up a couch, lounge in my comfy loose sweats and drink a glass of wine with you. Thanks.

    2. Julie, your comment made me chuckle. Some days just whiz by with none of the stuff done that we'd really like to do. If I lie, my poor, underworked muscles will know. ;) Bring on the wine!

  2. I hear you - when I let things slide with writing, too, I have a hard time getting into it again. That's why I try to power through!

  3. I hope you'll have a better time next week. I've got training all week for a new job, which is the first one I've had for four years... I probably won't know what hit me! Luckily it's part-time after that. Sometimes less time to do things makes us more focused and determined. Good luck!

  4. I have days, weeks even like this. My motivation is down around my ankles and I've been doing quite a bit of procrastination...but I'm hoping next week will be better. I need to set some short term goals, that usually helps me get back on track. Hang in there, brighter days are ahead! (:

    1. Thanks, Elise. I've been wandering around a story for the last few days. Finished it, but know I have lots to do with it. Want to get back on the exercise wagon next week.

  5. Sadly, I know exactly what you are talking about. Not only writing but exercising! Now that the weather is cooling I'm getting out for that much needed walk where I do some of my best thinking.

  6. Joy, we all struggle. The key is to keep striving toward a healthy body and mind. I haven't done so hot lately either, but I'm going to at least try to keep moving:)

  7. Hahaha I also have a bit of an issue like yours. I have two stories. One that has to be rewritten, one that has to be drafted.

Both want me to write them, so naturally, I'm editing another story. ;-)

    1. Nothing like a little distraction elsewhere to get you back on track. ;)

  8. I have those moments, too. I meant to work out every day this week. Didn't happen. The writing didn't really happen either. It all seems to go hand-in-hand for me. Here's hoping for a better week for you this week.

  9. My exercise just didn't happen this week, but I'm so much more productive when I do keep up with it. Sometimes my schedule boils down to a choice of sleep or running.

  10. Sometimes we have to have bad weeks in order to have good weeks. My fingers will be crossed for you, and good luck with your stories! :)

  11. I'm thinking of joining this club in a few months. I started exercising again. I hope to be consistent.

    Good luck with your goals.
