Surviving Organized Chaos with ParanormYA Partners

Wednesday, October 10, 2012

Welcome, Joy and friends, to the Partners in ParanormYA office.  It’s a quaint spot, usually just me, Gwen Gardner, and Angela – the one you just saw pass by in a blur.  Yeah, that’s her.

Oh, you noticed that when the blur – um, Angela – passed by, my empty desk suddenly had a stack of papers twisted all willy-nilly.  Well, that’s Angela’s brain at work.  She probably just went through an idea-overload moment, jotted them all out and now she’s sharing them with me.  I swear her mind is like some sort of idea generator.  I hint at something then those gears get going and her mind spins through ideas like a money counting machine.  I love that we communicate with each other.  Partnerships can’t work without that.
*whoosh of air*

There she goes again.  See? *Gwen points to her desk, quickly stacks, collates, organizes and gathers all the ideas into one file*

So you’re probably wondering, how do we work together, as different as we are?  Well, today is a bit of an exception.  Angela is normally at her desk, this empty one beside me.  But I made the mistake of surprising her with a six pack of Wild Cherry Pepsi.  She’s been zipping about ever since.  We embrace each other’s differences.  Where she’s excitable, I’m calmer.  With her idea generating and chaos, I’m organized.  We compliment and complement each other, just like our novels Givin’ Up The Ghost and Neverlove.

We balance it all out with the most important thing.  A mutual respect for each other as writers, published authors and creative thinkers.  Making each other laugh and accepting we’re both slightly insane helps too.

So you’ve been given a sort of “insider’s view” into our working world. Angela keeps us energized.  I keep us organized and together, our partnership runs smooth as silk.  I’ll just have to remember to NOT give Angela anymore Wild Cherry Pepsi. Oh, and I’m trying to break her of the habit of always putting me first - that girl is hard to train.

What about you?  Know of any “odd couples” that seem to make it work?

    1. Deniz, stop by PIP Headquarters - there's always something going on with our characters. But don't touch Angela's WCP!
