It pays never give up. Came across an article yesterday by hopping from
Rachele Alpine’s blog. It’s to do with Kathryn Stockett, author of
The Help. She received 60 rejections before an agent took on the book. And look what happened after that! So, if you’re feeling down about your progress or lack of it or just need some encouragement, have a look at Ms. Stockett’s
article.
Have a great weekend and meet me back here on Monday. I’ll have a book review and giveaway!
I wonder if she was writing during all the time she was submitting, and if I will be able to get my hands on another book she has written soon.
ReplyDeleteAngela, by the sound of things it seems like she was constantly at work on the novel. Haven't seen anything yet about a second book.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pics :)
ReplyDeleteThe Help is one of the best books I've read in the last year, and I can't imagine why it received 60 rejections. I'm grateful Kathryn didn't give up.
ReplyDeleteLovely plants! I wish I knew more about flora, too. But I can definitely appreciate their beauty and uniqueness despite my ignorance!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the links. I recently read "The Help" and liked it a lot! I hope the movie stays true to those amazing characters.
Thanks, Kelley.
ReplyDeleteMichelle, I've read a little bit about her journey and one of the rejections she got said there was no market for that kind of writing. So much for what that agent knew.
Laura, I never can remember the name of flowers, outside of the ordinary ones. Haven't read the book yet, but I hope to sometime soon.
Everyone has been talking about that book, "The Help" including my own brother. He emailed it to me thinking that I hadn't heard about the sixty rejections lol. I'm so glad it got published though...it is one of the great stories of our time.
ReplyDeleteI was on my way to nominating you for a blog award but its mean for those with less than 200 followers and you clearly have far too many already....LOL
ReplyDeleteI love the flowers.
I love the purple ones :)
ReplyDeleteI've heard so much buzz about this book, I'm really really going to have to try and get my hands on it.
Micheal, I should get my hands on it soon. Hoping it lives up to the hype.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Wendy. Appreciate you thinking of me. Have a great weekend!
Sarah, I like them too. I found out what they're called, but in typical me fashion, I forgot.
I have partials out. I actually backed out of a top agent who wanted a full because he wanted it on an exclusive, and I had several other requests for it. I felt like I missed out on my best shot of landing a top agent, though, so that left me depressed. However, my dream agent currently has my partial for DEAD FALL. I hope to hear back from her soon. I sure hope she wants a full. She said she was intrigued by my project.
ReplyDeleteIt is good to hear stories like that though. I'm nowhere near 60 rejections!!
Beautiful plants.
The drawing is over. I used random.org. Maeve won. Thanks for participating!
Sounds wonderful, Doralynn. I'm sure you've made the right decision. It's hard knowing what to do sometimes. Holding off everybody else for an exclusive that might not turn into a contract would give me gray hairs. :) happy Keeping my fingers crossed that you'll land that agent.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Maeve will enjoy Molly's book.
Have a great weekend.
I haven't read The Help yet, but from what I've heard it's an amazing book. I'm surprised it went through so many rejections! But I guess that's life.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful plants, by the way. I love the flowered one, so cute and tiny.
Lovely! I'm glad I'm not the only one that can't name plants - I've got a couple on my balconey; I paid attention to their names when I bought them and now I've forgotten!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great weekend!
Oh what lovely plants! I like the chinese fan palm, JL!
ReplyDeleteYou know what? I've got The Help as a gift from a dear friend and I've been wanting to read it...it's been on my nightstand for weeks now. I think I better start reading it! I've read Kathryn Stockett's story about her 60 rejections - it's such an inspiration! :)
Thanks JL, for visiting my blog. :)
Marlena, I've been surprised by some of the really good books that were rejected multiple times and then became best sellers.
ReplyDeleteDeniz, I have a friend I keep calling to ask her to remind me the name of plants.
Len, that rejection story is definitely inspiring. I don't know if I would have continued onward after 60 people saying no to me. She could teach me a thing or two about determination.
I love the fan palms because they look so wispy. Great pictures!
