 Legacy
1. Law . a gift of property, especially personal property, as money, by will; a bequest.
2. anything handed down from the past, as from an ancestor or predecessor: the legacy of ancient Rome.

After many years of not producing anything but minutes, I continued my love affair with writing by selling craft articles to online magazines. In short order, the main character for my first young adult novel came to me, along with her entire history.  How could I resist telling her story?

After that I moved on to writing what I enjoyed reading most – romance. Then out of the blue, I got the idea for a family drama, Dissolution, which is going to be published this month.  There are certain recurring themes in my writing, which I’ll discuss at another time. However, in terms of a legacy, I’d like to write entertaining stories about characters that speak to readers long after they finish the book. I want readers to learn something new from each of my novels and I want to touch something inside them that makes them think differently about life and relationships. Best of all, my son is also writing stories and he’s nine-years-old. I hope he also makes writing a life-long pastime.

It’s your turn. What do you wish to leave as your legacy?

Raw Beef Liver
Liver and onions is another dish I’m sure we got from the English.  It’s prepared like kidney, where it is cut up, seasoned, sautéed and simmered in it’s own juices. Most Jamaicans won’t add but a thimbleful of water (if that) to liver as it is said that water toughens the meat. Like kidney, liver is served with dumplings, green bananas, yam, any starch really, including rice. Liver is chockfull of vitamins and minerals and it also tastes great!  Picture of cooked liver came from here

  4. Great idea for a legacy and congratulations on 'Dissolution'!

As for what I'd wish to leave as a legacy: I'd like not to have been a burden on my environment. For me that means: leaving the world preferably a tad better than if I hadn't been there, not worse.

  6. Congratulations on Dissolution!

Great "L" post. As for what I'd like to leave as my legacy--to do something that changes people's lives for the better, even if it's just something like a good story.

K.C. - I like your way of thinking.

Josh, see how creative we writer types are? :)

Eagle, wanting to do something to change people's lives is always worthwhile.

Thanks, Susan. You never know when any of your kids might catch the writing bug.
